Q:        How does periodontal disease relate to heart disease?

 

A: Periodontal disease causes release of certain chemicals called cytokines and interleukins which promote migration of cells like macrophages and t lymphocytes to the arterial walls where they promote inflammation in preexisting plaques causing destabilization and further increase in plaque volume.

 

Q:        I have a problem with testosterone levels. Will I benefit from your Ed clinic?

 

A: Although testosterone levels mediate libido it also has a role in the mechanics of erection. We will be happy to see you.

 

Q:        My legs swell as the day progresses. Is it due to a heart condition?

A: Gravity mediated edema may be related to heart failure but is commonly related to venous insufficiency. A simple ultrasound can detect presence of venous insufficiency which is easily treated.

 

Q:        Can use of adderall cause cardiac problems?

 

A: Palpitations or rhythm disturbances can occur but there is no data onstructural heart disease with use of this drug.

 

Q:        I have palpitations which respond to coughing or bending over.

 

A: It appears that you may have a type of arrythmia called svt. It could be due to an accessory pathway. An event recorder for a few weeks will help diagnose it. It is very treatable.
